Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider (Southern Cape)
The course is intended for professionals who provide health care to patients including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Furthermore the course is also designed for anyone who is required to take Healthcare Provider Course for employment. This course is a prerequisite for anvanced courses in resuscitation, including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Neonatal Life Support (ANLS).
Including but not limited to:

- doctor’s assistant

- medical and nursing students in training

Requirements:
Any health care provider can attend the course.
Duration:
± 6 Hours (Excluding tea breaks)
Contents:
- Quality CPR for Adults, children and babies
- Quality Choking for adults, children and babies
- Practicing skills with an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Test:
There is an official exam and testing.
Certificate:
The Candidate will receive a certificate which is valid for 2 years which is internationally recognised.
CPD points:
11 CPD (CEU) points for BLS. (Whereby 1 point for Medical Ethics)

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Health Care Provider
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Health Care Provider
The ACLS is a 2-day course, hands-on learning experience, which focuses on management of cardiac arrest and various peri-arrest conditions.
Course Outline:
- Advanced airway management, including invasive and non-invasive devices and techniques.
- The major ACLS emergency conditions, including VT, VF, PEA, asystole, the tachycardias and bradycardias, and acute ischemic heart disease.
- Electrical therapy, including defibrillation, cardioversion and pacing.
- Invasive therapeutic and monitoring techniques.
- Special resuscitation situations, including stroke management and ethical considerations.
Entry Requirement:
Current registration as a Medical or Dental Practitioner, Intern, Junior intern, Professional Nurse or Paramedic.
Obtain and submit a valid BLS for HCP Certificate prior to ACLS course.
Duration:
2 Day Course (Including tea breaks and lunch)
Test:
Theoretical and Practical Assessment.
Certificate:
On successful completion, candidates will be:
Issued with an American Heart Association ACLS Provider Card.
Accredited by the HPCSA of SA of 28 Continuing Professional Development points and 2 ethics points. (30 CPD Point)
Credited points towards selected College of Medicine examinations (e.g. Diploma in Primary Emergency Care).
